Based in Townsville North Queensland, Greg Cook began riding horses at an early age of 3 when he and his horse “Shirley” were first allowed to join his father on mustering trips on the family property.
His relationship continued through his youth but it wasn’t until age thirteen when he was introduced to legendary horseman, Lee Reborse who held a clinic on his family property, that he truly became inspired to further his knowledge in horsemanship.
With the thirst for knowledge Greg began spending a great deal of his spare time with well known North Queensland horse trainer, Bill Basset where he became skilled in his general horsemanship at a very young age.
By age 15 he began breaking in youngsters and assisting his father with the training of Cutting Horses utilising the knowledge he had absorbed from the likes of Reborse and Basset, yet at the same time, and even to this day, Greg is always in search of a better way to train his horses.
Throughout a career spanning 4 decades, Greg has had a number of great horses go through his stable but it wasn’t until he became interested in roping that he asked for a horse from his father only to get a response, “There are plenty of horses in the paddock go out there and make one”, which he did. Over the years Greg and his horse Little One travelled thousands of kilometres together competing in events throughout QLD and NSW and it was great to see the trust and confidence they had in each other when Greg would rope of Little One without a bridle.
These days Greg continues to train horses and through demand he has began holding clinics for all levels of riders including beginners, intermediate and advanced riders Australia wide. In addition to that he has a Horse Breaking Program, does Private Lessons and even assists horsemen and women with their problem horse’s one on one or he will take the horse and correct the issue for them.
A philosophy that Greg has adopted with his style of teaching from his years of learning is that “Respect creates and active learner & willing partner”.
